Self-Study
As an alternative to the traditional instructor-led classroom setting, self-study courses are now available for Insurance Pre-Licensing students. PTS currently offers the self-study option for Life & Accident/Health Insurance Pre-Licensing. Self-study programs for Property & Casualty Insurance Pre-Licensing are in development, and will be announced in the coming months.
Life & Accident/Health Self-Study Program
TUITION: $135 ($10 discount for Cash/Money Order/Agency check – see registration form)
INCLUDES:
- Course textbook that contains 400 practice multiple-choice questions with thoroughly explained answers.
- Comprehensive summary booklet containing an additional 773 practice questions presented in a fill-in-the-blank format.
- Audio review of the most important concepts – an invaluable tool for turning your driving time into study time. This is a 2-disk audio CD set containing Life, Accident & Health and NJ Insurance Law concepts.
- Monitored examination to be scheduled by appointment and completed within 6 months of the course registration date.
Life-Only or Accident/Health-Only Self-Study Program
TUITION: $110 ($10 discount for Cash/Money Order/Agency check – see registration form)
INCLUDES:
- Course textbook that contains 300 practice multiple-choice questions with thoroughly explained answers.
- Comprehensive summary booklet containing an additional 541 practice questions presented in a fill-in-the-blank format.
- Audio review of the most important concepts – an invaluable tool for turning your driving time into study time. This is an audio CD containing both Insurance and NJ Insurance Law concepts.
- Monitored examination to be scheduled by appointment and completed within 6 months of the course registration date.
School Policy Applicable to all Self-Study Programs

SELF-STUDY COURSE POLICY:
- Self-study course registrations are non-transferable. This means that the registered student must be the same student who sits for the monitored examination. Student will be required to present a photo-ID at time of monitored examination.
- Monitored examination may be scheduled by registered student within the 6-month course window. Student must pass the monitored PTS school examination with a minimum grade of 75.
- The course examination is administered in a format very similar to the actual NJ State Examination. The student takes an Exam that consists of both Insurance policy questions and NJ State law questions. Life and Accident/Health students must pass 2 course exams – one for Life and another one for Accident/Health.
- The student must achieve a grade of 75% or above to pass each exam.
- Retake examinations must be completed within the student’s 6-month window. Two retake examinations are allowed. The first retake exam does not involve any additional cost; there is a $10 retake fee for the second retake exam.
- Incomplete course after the student’s 6-month window – Student may pay a $50 fee to renew course window for an additional 60-day period. If the textbook has been updated, student may purchase a new textbook for a discounted price of $50.
- Option to add classroom lectures within the 6-month course window:
- $50 for a ½-day lecture
- $100 for a full-day lecture
- $250 to switch from self-study to traditional class-room course
